The Forty Day Journey – Day 4

One of the verses today is from Psalm 34, when David pretended to be insane in front of Abimelech.  This is some of what David said:

“I will praise the Lord at all times.  I will constantly speak his praises. I will boast only in the Lord; let all who are helpless take heart.  Come, let us tell of the Lord’s greatness; let us exalt his name together.  I prayed to the Lord, and he answered me.  He freed me from all of my fears.  Those who look to him for help will be radiant with joy; no shadow of shame will darken their faces.”  Psalm 34: 1-5.

Isn’t it interesting that David had to be “out of his mind” to turn over complete control of his life to God?  That implies that his “mind” was getting in the way of his relationship with God, doesn’t it.

Have you ever been “out of your mind” but felt more alive and vibrant because of it?  For example, looking at a sunset or hearing an exquisite piece of music and for moment, time stood still.  No thoughts were present and your mind was silent.  You experienced only the majesty and beauty before you, not your thoughts about the majesty and beauty.

Perhaps we should approach God the same way.  Be “out of your mind” when you pray to God and see what happens.  It just might surprise you!
